Today is December 1st and last year I was inspired by Jote Khalsa and her blog Bless Her Heart. For the last two years she has used the month of December to write daily gratitudes. I joined in last year and loved it. It made such a difference for me. December is typically a very busy month in our house getting ready for holiday art shows and so you can be running busily through the day and today was no exception for us. My head was kind of spinning with the to-do list...We have our art opening tomorrow night and had a lot of last minute things to take care of and I also made a few sales on Etsy, so I packaged them up and mailed them out! (this was of course very exciting!). I sold the pieces above, so happy!
I find taking stock at the end of each day very therapeutic and it helps me put things in perspective and remember that I have so much to be grateful for, especially when things are busy as they are at the moment. So for my first day of blogging the grateful heart, I am very grateful to be able to make my art and (sometimes) sell it! (the icing on the cake!). I also love the flexibility it brings to my life. I get to spend lots and lots of time with my little boy Francis and be home with him and have a schedule that is ideal most of the time. My partner Ethan and I have worked out a pretty good schedule that gives us plenty of work time and family time. I am not sure how long we will be able to sustain this, but if it can work for another 6 months or year or more, then I am happy and know that I tried it and really enjoy(ed) it!! Yes, I am kind of a starving artist, but I have such a wonderful supportive extended family network (including my loving & supportive family in Australia and Ethan's Family in Vermont). Without them I am not sure that it would be possible (actually I am pretty sure it wouldn't be possible). I will always make art, I always have, even when I have a regular job. I like it, I love it! Some days more than others, but generally speaking I am really digging it these days and all the new discoveries!!
